"I got off RedEye.com

His character is dead, and David Conrad of CBS’ "Ghost Whisperer" loves it.

The actor, who plays Jim Clancy, the husband of the ghost whisperer herself, Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt), was killed off in last week’s episode. Conrad said the twist is giving him and Love Hewitt the chance to reboot their love story.

Whats exciting to me is I get to play the part [I] never got to play at all," he told reporters Thursday. We get to start all over again."

Confused? Let me explain. When Jim died, his ghost took over the body of a dead man named Sam after his soul “went into the light.” Now a revived Samwho doesn’t look like Jim to anyone but Melindahas amnesia. He doesn’t have Sam’s, or Jim’s, memories.

Viewers will see Conrad as Sam/Jim “99 percent of the time.” For the other 1 percent just to remind viewers who the other characters are seeing Kenneth Mitchell plays Sam/Jim.

”It is kind of strangeConrad said of Mitchell. “He’s amazing at imitating me … I’ll do a scene and he has to mimic the movement and he’s spot on.”

Conrad said that because Melinda wants to be with Jim, she and Sam must fall in love, beginning with the episode calledHeart and Soul 7 p.m. Friday.

"It’s like a prequel," he said. "They get to date, flirt, fall back in love with each other. And that’s thrilling, that’s maybe at the heart of what makes them exciting, that chemistry

Conrad said he wasn’t surprised with the story line, considering the show deals with death, ghosts and other supernatural phenomenon.

It occurred to me when I was filming the pilot [that] at some point they were going to hand me the pink slip," he joked. "I didn’t know it would be in such a creative, cool way. I thought they’d be like we hired David Duchovny and he’s coming on the show and you’re going

"

Like I said, I like soaps..and soaps do this stuff all the time so, it's okay with me..I like the story for the same reason that David Conrad likes doing it..Him and JLH definitely have on screen chemistry.

Okay..the only reason I think that jumping bodies like that is far fetched is because I don't believe in that..and the jury is still out with me on reincarnation...I can buy reincarnation a little bit because you would start over in a new body as a baby..I do think it's possible that some people have to do the whole "earth" thing again because they just didn't get it the first time..and by all counts, that probably means I'm on my 1,000 life (haha J/J)...but, literally jumping bodies because you don't want to cross over? Because that would mean that maybe when my son almost died in a car accident and was basically comatose for 3 weeks..he might be someone else now..I guess I don't buy the jumping bodies thing because I was raised in a VERY strict religion and while I am not as strict about it myself, the teachings are still there? Don't know...but, I don't think your soul wanders after you die either..but, that's just me. (I AM NOT TRYING TO START AN ARGUEMENT ABOUT RELIGIOUS BELIEFS..Just stating what *I* believe and don't believe!)

I appreciate your feedback, I always do. I'm not saying I definitely believe in reincarntation. But, I never had a strict religious upbringing, which left my mind pretty wide open, ( I do believe in God, just not certain what happens after we die). I've always enjoyed programs like Ghost Whisperer because, for one thing, they stretch ones' imagination. Making a person believe almost anything is possible. Whether or not we believe or accept the theory about soul's jumping into another's body, the show's writers do. It doesn't matter, it's a good show, but it's only a show. Not real, but you know that. Sorry to hear what happen to your son. Must have been a awful time, and thank God he's alive. Merry Christmas.

Yes. The most important thing here is that we still have Jim and David Conrad. Their chemistry is undeniable, and I'm just thrilled about this 2nd chance they have. We have to wait until the 9th? That seems so far away, but I can't wait either!

SOO so happy that that didn't turn into an argument..have been on other sites where all someone has to do is mention anything religion and people start arguing..I think it takes away from why we are here..to enjoy the show we are talking about.

When I begun thinking about it after I posted here, My son actually IS a different person..(he suffered a head injury) so...I retract what I said about that..but, if another soul jumped into his body.I don't want to know..:) Its all good now because with whatever he lost in the accident, he gained alot as well..I know that sounds strange but, it is true.

Yeah, the jury is out with me too on reincarnation..but, I am not beyond accepting it should I find out it were true..what I love about GW and shows like it..is that even though we may not individually believe in our loved ones souls either jumping into another body or going on in some way (which I do believe there is something after we die) but, even if you DONT believe..I think most people WANT to believe..if that makes sense..and basically GW is showing us what could happen if people really did jump into another body..and how cool is it that Melinda gets to "know" that..but, on the other hand, how frustrating it is for her because at first she was torn because she thought he should cross over..then when he didn't..now she has to face the fact that he doesn't remember her.

Trust me we will not turn it into an argument. Why argue over what your beliefes are? It doesn't make sense to me. If those are your beliefs then who am I to argue with you LOL i simply dont understand it. Now I will tell you my beliefs if they are different then yours simply so you could see howI feel. LOL but never an argument.

Later on I'll get around to the other 3, I hope. How do people post videos on youtube, anyway? I would love to buy 1st season of GW, but at $46.00? Don't think so! I love it, but that's a little steep. Happy Holidays everyone!!! And have a very Happy New Year, too!!! Do you find this valuable?

I might be since I sense something is missing from my life. I'm eager to see the next show! Trouble is, I am thrown by this new story line. The Other Woman! I posted the studio address on one of these discussions, but forget which one. Is there anyone out there who would like to write to producers? How's the new Spirit Guide?

Well, with Jim being Sam or whatever..it is to be expected that there might be other people in his life other than his sister and family..we will see where this is going..Obviously the girl couldn't be too much to him because..where is she???

Also, think about this..My brother proposed to his girlfriend a few years back..they ended up breaking up but, because they didn't get married he got the ring back. He paid 4000 dollars for this ring..he has it in a safe deposit box for future keeping and we are ALL sworn to secrecy that he has it because when he gets engaged again he wants to use it since he paid so much for it..hahaha.. So, maybe that is the deal with Sam? Just a suggestion...

Just dropping a note regarding Jennifer Hewitt. I am watching The Audrey Hepburn Story. I don't know if you know who that is, Audrey was a beautiful, sophisticated and talented actress. I wondered if you've seen it. If not, I hope you'll get the chance to, because I know you're a big fan of Jennifer Love. She did a wonderful job! Take care! looking foward to Friday's show! I am so confused, so I just got into this show not that long ago but I've seen plenty of the old ones and saw Jim and Melinda when Melinda was pregnant and had a baby boy and there was one or two episodes when they had their little boy in it. So...that being said how is it that Jim is dead and the little boy is not in the picture? can someone explain? I've thought around it and was thinking either melinda's son died in a show I missed or there's something wrong with the order of this show...which no that would not make sense either...
