I have a question about a spirit. Someone close to me passed away earlier this year. We had a very unique funeral in his honor and several photos were taken by more than one person using more than one camera. If only one camera had been used or was used by one person, that would explain the images in the pictures.

But in these pictures you can see this person clearly and you can tell that it is a spirit of some sort. Most of the pictures show this same person in them except two of them have more than one image.

I have never experienced anything like this and was hoping that maybe you could help me understand why this happened and if he was saying anything to us through these pictures.

Thank you for any help.

Dear Angela,
When a picture is taken and it's not orbs or circles, then it is the energy of an earthbound ghost. You are not going to get a message from a photo, just confirmation that ghosts were there.

Everyone attends their funeral or memorial service, so one possibility is the images could be of your friend. Orbs or circles are also pictures of ghosts, but ones that have crossed over, not ones that are earthbound.

You can go to www.maryannghostbuster.com to see if you can compare your photos to the ones on the Web site.

You will know from the photos that your friend was at his funeral.

Hello Mary Ann,

My mother passed away in 1963 and I have gotten a strong smell of roses, not often, but when I get them it is very strong. The last time I experienced the smell was when I was on my way to the hospital for my dad. We had just found that he was in the final stages of cancer.

Then a few weeks later, just before he passed on, I smelled roses again. Could this be my mother? I have had a hard time with my mother's death, even though it was so long ago. I still cannot go to the cemetery. Can you help me?

Thank You.

Dear Cathy,
What you experienced was your mother. I believe she stayed when she died and did not cross into the light. She was probably worried about you because she felt that you were too young to be alone. She may have been worried about your father also.

When your father crossed over after his funeral I think she went with him. She is finally at peace. Do not worry about not going to the cemetery. Cemeteries are where the living are go to feel better. Ghosts, earthbound or ones that have crossed, hardly ever visit cemeteries. Ghosts that have crossed over like your parents would much rather appear in dreams.

Hello Mary Ann,

Our parakeet died of cancer on March 5, 2007. Also, it was on March 6, 2004 that our mother passed away. Do birds have souls? Is it with our parents? We miss them all. Thank You.

Regards,

Bea and Attil

Hi Bea and Attil,
All of our pets meet up with us when we or they die. So yes, all animals and birds have souls, including your parakeet.

When my daughter was eight years old, she woke me up with a bloodcurdling scream. She said that she saw three girls dressed in black who were scratching her. I found that she had scratches. What were they trying to tell her?

Thanks,

Kimberly

Hello Kimberly,
You said this happened to your daughter when she was eight years old. I think two things were going on. There very well could have been a little, earthbound girl ghost dressed in black that was scratching her. If the ghost was a bully or mean when she was alive, she would have the same personality when she died. That is why she would like scaring your daughter.

However, if there were three girl ghosts, that would be very unusual. Your daughter would not have enough energy for three earthbound ghosts to hang around her. The little girl ghost that was scratching her was probably moving so fast and your daughter was so scared that it most likely seemed like there were three ghosts in her room.

Nothing was trying to be told to your daughter. All that was wanted was the energy from the fear they caused your daughter. It is so sad your daughter had to have that experience at eight years old. It is hard for an adult, let alone a child.

Dear Mary Anne,

I find your descriptions of your experiences fascinating. I lost my grandma to Alzheimer's three years ago. I was lucky enough to drive down to Dallas and visit her the day before she passed. She was in terrible shape, not able to communicate at all. As I recall, she did seem to follow my gaze with her eyes some. She was a wonderful woman, deeply religious, and spoke three languages. So, it was very painful to see her in such a state.

Well, about a month after she died, I was driving home from work in the early morning hours after a swing shift. On the drive home, I was praying that she was okay and asked God to take care of her.

I went to sleep at around five that morning and was jarred awake around four or five hours later. I was startled because I was dreaming that I was talking to her. In the dream, we were at her old house where I practically grew up. I asked her if she was okay and told her that I loved her and missed her so much. I asked her a few more questions too, but she didn't answer them.

What she did do though was what startled me. I heard her say "I'm fine, honey" in her Texas twang. She smiled, and I felt her wrap her arm around my shoulders in a hug. I can swear that I felt the pressure on both my shoulders like an arm was there. That's what woke me up. I felt so many emotions all at once - shock, a little freaked, awed, loved, relieved. I have had a few precognitive dreams before so I am not surprised that I may be open to this sort of thing as well.

My question for you involves her time of death and perhaps anything you have experienced in this area. My two aunts were there with my grandma when she died. One of them said she took a deep breath, her eyes got real wide like she was shocked at seeing something and then she died. My aunt said she felt a "whoosh" right afterwards.

Is this common - "this whooshing feeling"? Also, do you suppose her eyes got really big at what she saw - perhaps a relative or the white light?

Thank you for your time,

Jennifer

Hello Jennifer,
How wonderful that you got such a great dream of your grandmother so soon after her death. Sometimes it can take up to three years after someone has died, before someone dreams of them. You not only heard her say that she is fine, but you got a hug!

When she died her eyes could have gotten wide from the white light or her seeing someone that had died before her that she had not seen in a long time. Other people have experienced the "whoosh" or a "cool breeze" or a "strong flower scent". I feel it is just the spirit leaving the body.

Nurses that work on floors where death occurs often have these experiences all of the time.

Thanks,

Mary Ann

How can I really tell if I have a spirit in my house versus it being my overactive imagination? I am 40 years old. I have been happily married for 20 years, and have four kids who all live at home.

Here are the things that happened. Our TV will go off and on by itself sometimes. It will happen several times a day and then it won't do it for a long time. The lights in my bathroom vanity seem weird too. For a week straight they would need to be changed. I would change them and in a few days one would go out again. So my husband checked to make sure it wasn't electrical and it wasn't. And then it stopped, and this had been happening for two years. Sometimes I hear someone calling me. It's soft, like in my ear, and I turn, and nobody's there.

One time I was sitting at the computer in my kitchen and the little tray that sits under my refrigerator water dispenser flew out and hit the back of my chair. It scared the crap out of me because I was alone and my chair is about three feet from the fridge. So it would seem it should just fall to the floor. Things don't happen all the time, so in between I just think it was nothing. But is there any way I can find out? Thank you.

Susan,
No you do not have an overactive imagination. What you have are earthbound ghosts in your house, at least two, maybe three. Everything that you have described can happen, plus a lot more.

You can keep track of it yourself. The week before a full moon, more of these things will happen. After the full moon peaks, it will be quiet again or not quite as active. The other time is on the day of a new moon and two days after. These phases of the moon give earthbound ghosts more energy, so they are more active.

If you keep track for a couple of months and the activity corresponds to the phases of the moon, try having the house blessed by an ordained priest or minister or try smudging the house with a sweet grass or sage smudge stick.
