Martha
Hi Mary Ann,
I love the show. I do believe in all of that stuff. I'm curious about hearing my name called at night in my room lately. I wonder if it's my father, who passed away four years ago or if it's my mom, who I can't find and who has maybe passed on. If you can make any suggestions, that would be great. I do have a recorder. I have thought of putting it out at night to see if it picks up anything.
Thank you

Martha

Hi Martha,
If you can dream of your father, you can actually ask him if he knows who it is. I do not think it is him. This is not something a crossed-over ghost would do. Earthbound ghosts can call out or call your name, but I would have no way of knowing from a letter if this is your situation. I do not know a lot about EVPS, but using your recorder may give you an answer.

Good Luck

Hi Mary Ann,

On Christmas Day 2004, my mother-in-law died. On June 2, 2005, my brother committed suicide. Then 18 days later on June 20th, my husband died of lung cancer. My brother's death is still a source of tremendous pain for everyone.

About three months after he died I dreamt that I was talking to him and asking him questions about whether he was OK and if there was anything we could do to help. He was in a big room with lots of other people, kind of like a waiting room. He answered me. He said he was OK and that we should pray for him. When I asked him what it was like, he started talking in a foreign language. I figure maybe I am not supposed to know that.

I have dreamt about my husband. He is always around other people. He will answer me if I talk to him, but he doesn't seem happy.

Anyway, last Christmas, every car I drove broke down, to the point that I had to buy a new one. And for the last month, the hot water tank, the washer, the computer and now my stove, have all broken. Is my brother or husband stuck here?

My daughter said maybe it's my mother-in-law because she never liked me and at the funeral home, at her coffin, I told her what I thought of her. My husband thought I was nuts but I knew she could hear me and after 34 years it felt good to finally give that woman a piece of my mind. OK, so maybe I am nuts. Anyways, is there someone stuck here? And if so, what can I do to help them? Thanks and I love your books.

Dear Kim,
Wow! What a miserable seven to eight months you had. I am sorry you had to go through all of that. Let us start with your brother. Suicides are so very hard on a family. At least you have had a dream of him, so he has crossed over. Your dream was very accurate. He does need all the prayers so he can leave the waiting room and go on. Your husband has also crossed over, because you have dreamt of him and people that die of cancer usually go to the light. I think he was really tired and ready to go.

Why does he seem so unhappy? It's because of his mother, your mother-in-law. I do not believe she has crossed over, and he knows it. Your telling her off at her funeral worked! She heard you. At least you felt better for awhile. But she is ultimately having the last word by her actions. So you see you are not nuts. You are just being haunted by your dead mother-in-law.

A couple of suggestions: If you are affiliated with a church, it never hurts to have your house blessed. Do not use holy water yourself. That would make her very angry. It is one thing for an ordained priest or minister to do that, but totally different for a lay person to do it. The other thing you can try is to use a smudge stick. This is what Native Americans use to get rid of earthbound ghosts or negative energy.

I feel bad for you. This is like living a bad dream!

Kent

Hi Mary Ann,
I just have one question. What do people do in the afterlife? Do they have entertainment like TV and movies? Do they live in houses? Is it one big, never ending party? I was always curious about what goes on in the afterlife.

Hi Kent,
Well that is four questions! Kent, I am not a medium. James Van Praagh is and that is a question that he could answer for you. I am a paranormal investigator and I can only see earthbound ghosts. I would like to think the afterlife is a lot of things. If parties, movies, and TV are your idea of heaven, I do not think that you will be disappointed

Here's hoping.

Hello,
I have dreams that are constantly coming true....and I wonder what the point of it is? I mean, am I having precognitions? Also, my nana, who passed away in 1997, constantly pops into my dreams and we chat. I believe she is visiting me in the dream state...is this true?

Thank you

Hi Sharon,
You are having precognitive dreams. I suggest you get some good books on that subject. If this is something that you want to do, then you should learn how to use it to help others. Yes, your nana is in your dreams and how wonderful that you are communicating with her. Many, many people wish they could do that.

Great dreams

Hi Mary Ann,
My name is Mary Ann also! I'm named after a baby who didn't quite make it into this world. She died in the womb at nearly 9 months. My question is do babies grow or mature in the afterlife or do they stay babies? I've heard that people with disabilities lose their disability in the afterlife, so it makes me curious what becomes of babies. Do they undergo some kind of change? I have always felt that she watches over me. I wonder if this is possible. Thank you for your time and for helping so many people through the Web site.

Mary

Hi Mary Ann,
Don't we have a great name! When people die, their bodies are what are diseased or disabled but their spirits are whole and healthy in every way. I do not believe babies grow or mature in the afterlife. They are so precious the way that they are. Also, that way, they can also be reunited with their loved ones. You are probably feeling your guardian angel, a spirit guide, or maybe an adult relative that is visiting. How fortunate that you are aware of this.

Hello Mary Ann,
I am not sure where to begin except to say my family and I are grieving the suicidal death of my husband's brother. My children and I loved him dearly and no one saw this coming. He was going through a bad divorce but no one realized how badly he was taking it. My question is: What are your feelings about what happens when someone commits suicide? He died Friday, October 20th of this year.

I have so many questions and I miss him so much. We were so close but I don't feel him around me. I try to read everything I get my hands on and hope to dream of him every night but there is nothing. I am so worried about him. Please give me any advice that you can to help myself, my husband, and my three sons to cope with this loss and how I can know he is OK.

Thank you
Margie

Dear Margie,
You and your family have my sympathy. Sometimes I feel the family of the person who committed suicide is just as much victims as the person who died. If he crossed into the light after his death, it could really take a long time for you or someone to dream of him. Because of his choice to commit suicide, he could have a lot to learn. You or someone in the family will dream of him eventually. Maybe family grief counseling would help you all find some closure.

Peace
Mary Ann
