Part I (In the Living room)
Jim: Come on, Mel. What's bugging you?
Mel: Everything's changing so fast. I don't like it.
Jim: What do you mean?
Mel: Well, I really wish we were having a girl. This boy is breaking five generations of tradition! That and the whole "Sam" thing. I just really wish we could tell people like your mom or...mine or maybe Bobby. And it's made you a doctor. I didn't want to tell you, but I miss you as a paramedic. I fell in love with a paramedic, I married a paramedic, and a paramedic bought me a hot dog on our first date.
Jim: I didn't know you felt so strongly.
Mel: You on the other hand are probably really happy about our baby being a boy. Guys usually are.
Jim: I'm fine no matter what the gender is, as long as it's yours.
Mel: I wish I could say the same. I just get a bad feeling.
Jim: Gabriel?
Mel: I guess so. I don't want him to be like him. Jim, I'm sorry. I'm so full of complaints. It's just a lot to handle at once and I know I can't change any of it.
Jim: Sorry.
Melinda catches sight of a calendar and stops.
Mel: Jim, what's the date?
Jim: September 24, 2009.
Mel: I'm supposed to die tomorrow. Great. Let's just add onto everything else. I just miss the way things were before.
Jim: Me too. If you're supposed to give birth or...tomorrow, we still have one night together...alone. Let's make the best of it.
Mel: You're so- Oh, crap!
Jim: What?
Mel: My water just broke!
Jim: And off we go!
Part II (At the Hospital)
Mel: Give me a C-section! Now!
Doctor: I'm sorry. You're going to have to be dilated...the natural way.
Jim: No! She needs this. It's hard to explain, but our situation depends on this. Please.
Doctor: Alright; we'll be finished in the early hours of the morning.
Mel: My due-date exactly.
Doctor: Follow me, please.
Mel: Can I be sedated? I have a weak stomach. I don't want to watch this.
Jim: *in Mel's ear* right...
Mel: I'm not risking it.
Part III (the delivery room)
Mel: *Waking up* Ouch. I hurt all over.
Jim: That's part of the deal.
Mel: Why can't men have babies?
Jim: I'm fine with the woman thing as it is, actually.
Mel: Do I get to see little Aiden?
Jim: I know you'll be happy with this news. There is no Aidan.
Mel: WHAT HAPPENED!?
Jim: We don't have an Aidan. We have two beautiful, healthy, cute little girls.
Mel: Jim, you almost gave me a heart-attack. I thought the baby like...you know...kicked the bucket.
Jim: Sorry.

I DO NOT OWN THIS PHOTO!
The nurses roll the two babies into the room. Both are awake and full of energy.
Mel: What should we name them?
Jim: Aidan was mine. You can name them.
Mel: I'm naming them after their grandmothers. Juliette Faith Clancy and Riley Mary-Ann Clancy
Mel: They're different. Look at the way their eyes are moving.
Juliette was first to be held by her mother. Riley was in Jim's arms. Juliette's bright blue eyes were moving quickly from left to right. She was thinking. Eventually her eyes landed on her parents and seemed to smile. Her eyes were just like her father's. Melinda looked at her other daughter, Riley, and noticed her eyes were the same color. Daddy's little girls already.
Part IV (three years later)
Mel: Jim?
Jim:Yeah?
Mel: You remember that night last month? When the girls were at your mom's house? God, I can't believe she believed the "Sam" thing. Anyway, do you?
Jim: *Smiling* Yeah. We used the pills for the first time in forever.
Mel: They worked...I'm pregnant.
Jim: *hugging Mel* That's great!
Part V (Getting an ultrasound)
Mel: Hold my hand. This stuff is really ticklish.
Jim: It's okay.
Doctor: Would you like to know the gender?
Mel: *looking at Jim* Sure.
Doctor: You're having a boy.
Jim: Are you sure?
Doctor: Yes. You see? Right there is his-
Mel: Too much info.
Jim: Hahaha
And thus Aiden James Lucas was born. He took Sam's last name because, technically the baby was Sam's.

Part VI (Five years later)

Riley: No! We can see them! We help them, too!
Randy: It's pretend!
Juliette: *getting angry* No, it's not!
Randy: Freaks!
Juliette: I know what I see!
Juliette focuses and causes the ground to shake momentarily like a strong but short earthquake, releasing her anger.Randy: Stay away from me! I promise I won't be mean to you again.
Juliette: What happened?
Randy: I'm telling the teacher!
Juliette: Wait!
Riley: What happened, Jules?
Juliette: *breathing deep* I don't know.
Randy: Ms. Peters! The twins hurt me.
Ms. Peters: How?
Randy: They knocked me down. It scared me really bad.
Ms. Peters: Tell them I want to see them. I'm calling their parents.
Randy: Okay.
Part VI (In the principal's office)
Melinda: So, what happened exactly?
Ms. Peters: One of their classmates claims that they "knocked him down" and scared him. He was crying.
Melinda: That doesn't sound like them.
Ms. Peters: They're some of the quiet ones. Though I thought I heard them talking...fighting.
Melinda: Do you know what they were fighting about?
Ms. Peters: It sounded like..."ghosts". It seemed like Riley was mostly staying out of it. It was Juliette and Randy. I didn't see Riley do anything, but she defended Juliette and Randy said she did something, so I don't know.
Mel: I think maybe I'll take them home to...wind down.
Part VII (in the antique store)
Mel: Riley, Jules. What really happened?
Juliette: I got mad and I made the ground shake. It was like a superpower.
Mel: Jules, you know your show got canceled?
Juliette: Which one?
Mel: Super space monkeys.
Juliette: *releases energy again and concentrates it on a vase* Why?
The vase shatters in place and the pieces fall to the floor.
Mel: No. It was my show actually. Sorry, sweetie. So, this...new gift makes you release energy. Try to do it again.
Juliette focuses on one of the broken pieces of what was once a vase and is able to move it an inch or so.
Mel: Riley, try it.
Riley focuses on the same piece and moves it another inch.
Mel: Telekinesis. That's awesome!

(the twins' tenth birthday)

The twins grew up with different interests. Riley liked to play basketball with Jim, help Melinda at the shop (which was how she made the majority of her allowance), she loved to cook and had potential to become a chef one day (although she wasn't quite positive that was what she wanted to do, she still kept it in mind), and was a big community leader. It was basically her reputation in the town. What they didn't know about Riley, was what she and her twin sister could do. That was why she helped out so much, because she was different, and being around normal people made her feel better. Sometimes, she hated her gift. Other times, she knew that it was who she was supposed to be, She liked it because it made her her mother's daughter, and her sister's best friend. The twins also had visions. Juliette liked to write, play sports with her family, help her mother and sister in the antique shop. Although she usually came off as "weird", beyond the surface, she was a sweet and loving person. She was like her parents, compassionate and always putting others before herself. She enjoyed the fine arts, so she also participated in local theatre and dance. Juliette was more creative and ambitious than Riley, and Riley was more of one to "go with the flow" of things. Riley was outgoing, but didn't like to get the kind of attention that Juliette loved to get from her performing arts. Volunteering for the community was her main concern, and less of trying to memorize things. But Juliette was good at that kind of stuff, and her family was proud of her for it.
Aiden: Where were you?
Riley and Juliette: Crossing over a ghost!
The twins look at each other, confused.
Riley: You just said what I was thinking!
Juliette: I was thinking it!
Riley: You stole my thoughts!
Juliette: No, you stole mine!
Jim: *leaning over to Melinda* Twin telepathy?
Mel: These girls have three gifts and I can't train them on two thirds of them!
Jim: They're twins. They'll learn from each other.
Aiden: I wish I had the gift.
Riley: Sorry. *Smiling a little, comforting* You can have mine if you want...I wish that were possible.
Aiden: *Smiling back* Thanks, Riles. But you keep it.
*They all smile at each other*
Juliette: Hey, how about we play some soccer, DAD?
Jim: *getting his game face on* Let's go!
Mel: I'll be the referee.
Juliette: Boys vs. girls!
Aiden: You're so on!
Riley: Wait a minute, is that fair? Dad and Aiden, me and you?
Juliette: Riley, don't worry about it. Together, we'll kick their -
Jim: Jules! Language.
Juliette: I was gonna say "butt".
Jim: Accepted.
Riley: *Linking arms with Juliette, smiling* Let's go.
Juliette: *anxiously* Come on, Riley! Kick the ball!
Riley: And she kicks the ball two yards away from Aiden, who stands still, looking appalled that a girl would even try to beat him...
Aiden: Riiilleeyyyy!
Jim: Hey, Riley, what's with the commentary?
Riley: And she shoots... And she scores! Woooo!!!... *gasping for air, smiling* It's to distract you, so I could get the ball into the net.
Jim stands looking impressed, but not willing to show it. Riley laughs. Melinda stands at the side, smiling.
Juliette: *with a big smile* So what's our prize?
Aiden: Prize? No one mentioned a prize.
Juliette: We won! We need to be rewarded, daddy. It is our birthday.
Riley: Yeah dad! What do we get for being your very loving, very impressive, very talented twin daughters?
Jim: A big GIANT hug!
The twins squeal as Jim pulls them in for a hug
Juliette: *giggling* Come on, dad, seriously!
Jim: Well, we could go out for ice cream...
Riley: Daddy, I think we should go to the amusement park!
Juliette: Yeah! I'm dying to go on that new roller coaster!
Aiden: I hope you puke!
Jim: Hey, Aiden, be nice.
Aiden: *whining* It's not fair.
Jim: *reassuring* Do you honestly think that if we went to the amusement park, we'd leave you here all alone?
Aiden: Maybe.
Jim smiles and shakes his head.
Jim: Alright, everyone go wash up and get changed. I'll discuss this with your mom, and if she agrees, we will spend the rest of the afternoon at the amusement park that you girls are just dying to go to.
The girls jump up with joy.
The Twins: Thank you!
The girls run back into the house as Aiden staggers behind them
* * *
Riley: Fun, but there were so many people there! Oh well.
Juliette: Hey! I just remembered something!
Mel: Yeah?
Juliette: It's pink flannel pajama night. It's Friday.
Mel: That's right. Jim, Aiden. Garage is all yours! What do you girls want to watch?
Riley: Mystery!
Juliette: Horror!
Mel: How about both?
Both twins smile brightly as Melinda pops the dvd in the player. Juliette has her head laid on Mel's right shoulder and Riley has hers on the left, both slowly falling asleep. The movie is getting very suspenseful, and Melinda is watching intently, not remembering what happens next. She sees a door slowly creeping open, making the main character feel on edge and a little nervous, when her phone rings loudly, waking up Riley and Juliette and making Melinda scream at the top of her lungs.
Mel: Oh my God!
Juliette: Mom, I'm ten. I don't need a heart- attack.
Riley: What she said.
Mel: It's Delia. Shh.
Delia: Hey it's me.
Mel: Caller id.
Delia: Sorry to bug you on your "day off", but I was closing down the store and the electrical turned off. The alarm system isn't working and I don't want to be the cause of a robbery, so maybe you could bring Jim over and let him...fix it.
Mel: Alright, but that involves bringing the whole family.
Delia: Ned could swing by and babysit. He's on his way to his girlfriend's house.
Mel: He has a girlfriend?
Delia: I know. Maybe they'll get married and he'll move out. Like that'll ever happen!
Mel:Don't be so sure
Jim comes bursting through the door like a fool, and Mel laughs.
Jim: What happened? You screamed.
Mel: My phone rang. Delia, could you hang on?
Delia: Sure.
Mel: Jim, power's out at the store. Could you...fix it?
Jim: And leave the kids alone?
Mel: I'll stay. Go.
Riley: Can we come?
Juliette: Yeah, we could help you, dad.
