I have been wanting to join this site for a long time, and now I finally can! So i know almost all the insides and outs of the site and I am really happy to be joining it! One thing I really like to do is write, so I put a short intro to a fanfiction i wrote and soon I think i will put the rest on its own page where you can find it under the user fanfics and read the rest. I don't have that part spell checked and stuff yet, so I will get that up soon In my fanfiction, which I started way back in April, Jim is in sams body, but hes jim. I actually don't think I mention it even once in the actual story, but I just wanted to tell you. Melindas baby is a girl, like I always wanted it to be, and her name is Chloe. I'm thinking shes about a year in my story. So this part I am putting on my page right now is sorta a prequel preface sort of thing. Im introducing a new character, and of course i had to write how Melinda met her, sooooo. This isn't all of it, just what i have checked so far (Like I said, I'm a terrible speller) So enjoy the first and second part, I'll have the rest up later. Neighborhood whisperer Melinda is walking down the street. She is about four houses down from hers when she sees a sign nailed into the bright green grass. "Sold!" It says "Hmmm" Melinda thinks, "they finally sold that house," As she rounds a bush that is blocking her view of the house and the yard, she sees a young girl. The house is bright yellow and has a wrap-around porch. Old, but fixed up to look very nice. The girl is sitting on the lawn with her legs crossed. Her hair is in a high ponytail and she looks about 13 or 14. On the grass in front of her, there is a small house phone, plugged into a headset that the girl appears to be talking to. You can hear her faintly talking as Melinda walks a few steps past the bush Girl-What’s the matter?…Oh really… It's Ok, I can help you Then Melinda stops and gives the girl a very confused look. She starts to step off of the sidewalk and onto the yard as she realizes that the girl isn't talking on the phone! She's talking to a ghost! The girl glances up for a brief second at Melinda who is about a yard away from her now. The ghost disappears. The girl glances forward and sighs. She mumbles with a sad look Girl- Always, always, always, so close She stands up and struggles to smile Girl- Hi, my name is Molly. Are you a new neighbor? She reaches out her hand to Melinda but Melinda just stares back giving her this confused, amazed, indescribable look. Mel-Uhhh, hi… Yes, I live down the block. I'm Melinda She shakes Molly's hand. Molly is getting self-conscious about the look Melinda is giving her. She shuffles uneasily Molly- Oh, gosh, it must of looked like I was talking to myself, but... She waves the phone up by her face then sets it back on the ground Molly- I was just on the phone, ha ha Melinda smiles and points at Molly, shaking her head. Mel-No, no you weren’t Molly gets nervous, turns around, and starts to walk toward her house Molly- I don’t know what you’re talking about, I was clearly on the phone! Melinda starts to walk after her Mel-The phone, was off, not to mention you never hung up Molly flinches and turns around, red from embarrassment Molly- Listen lady, if you think I’m crazy, honestly, I could care less, but please, just let it be and leave my family out of it. Molly jumps the three steps to her porch and starts to open the screen door Mel-Wait! Molly! It’s Ok! Melinda takes a few more steps toward the porch. Molly turns around and holds the door open with her foot. She looks more angry then embarrassed now. Molly- Ok Melinda! If you’re some sort of shrink and you think you can "help me" or whatever, I don’t need your stinking help, just go away! I can take care of myself! Molly turns, furious, and starts to stomp inside. In an attempt at a last minute save, Melinda runs to the door and holds it before it slams. Mel- Molly, listen to me! Molly is down the hall by now Molly- Go away! I’m calling the police! Melinda hesitates, should she tell Molly, or try to explain all this to the police? Mel-Molly! I see them too! Molly freezes. She doesn’t hang up the phone but she doesn’t dial the number Mel-The ghost boy you were talking to had a red baseball cap, a striped green and purple shirt, shaggy jeans and no shoes. Molly hangs up the phone and turns around. She is trying to act serious but you can see her smile a little bit. She looks more confused then anything Mel-Is that right? Molly starts to walk back down the hall, toward the door. Molly nods and breaks into a huge smile. Molly- You really can?! Oh my gosh! I’ve never met anyone who can, besides my mom and me! Oh, wow! So... She runs out the door, past Melinda and onto the lawn. She looks around for a bit, and then points across the street at a man, walking down the street, and looking at the ground. Molly-So you see him? Mel- Who? The man in the suit? Black hair? Uhhh, yeah, I see him. Molly squeals and starts to jump up and down like a six year old A honk is heard from the street. Molly’s mood changes. Molly- Oh no! It’s my Mom! She’s home! She’ll kill me if she knew I was outside when she wasn’t here! She starts to push Melinda off the porch. Molly- I’m really sorry to kick you out like this. But.... Too late, her Mom pulls into the driveway. She closes the car door and walks over to Molly and Melinda who are standing on the sidewalk in front of the house. Smiling, she says Emily-Molly? Who’s this? Molly-This is Melinda, Mom, a new neighbor Her mom is smiling, though, obviously still upset with Molly Emily-Hi, Melinda, nice to meet you. I guess you've met Molly, I'm her mom, Emily. Melinda nods, shaking Emily's hand Mel- Nice to meet you Emily spots the phone and headset, on the lawn where Molly left it. Emily-Oh! Molly, not the headset thing again? She walks over and picks it up Emily- You know that doesn't always work! Molly-But mom, it's ok, you see… Emily- Not to mention you were outside! How many times do I have to tell you not to go outside when I'm not home? Molly- Oh come on, mom! I'm almost 14! Emily-Yes, honey I know, but it’s a new town and a new neighborhood and I just don’t want you out, Ok? Molly-But Mom, listen, Melinda here... Emily- Oh Melinda! I'm so sorry we are wasting your time! Molly, will you please go to your room? Molly is upset but knows she doesn't stand a chance arguing. She says goodbye and walks inside. Mel-Oh, its ok Mrs... Emily-You can just call me Emily Mel- Emily, Your not wasting my time. I was off on a walk when I saw Molly sitting on the lawn Emily-Oh yes, on the phone, probably talking to one of her friends from school. Emily starts to walk up the steps. Melinda takes a deep breath Mel- I know she wasn't on the phone. The phone was off. Emily gets a little nervous Emily- Oh, well ok then. I'll talk to her about that. Emily starts to open the screen door, trying to inch away. Mel- Hey, it's ok, I know who she was talking too. I see ghosts too. Emily freezes and turns around Emily-Really now? Hmm. Does Molly know you know? Mel- Yes, her secret is safe with me. She was very excited when I told her I could see them too. She said she's never known anyone who talks to them besides herself and you. Emily laughs weakly, she believes Melinda. Emily- Oh, well, its true Melinda- If you don’t mind, I can leave my number. I’m sure she’d like to talk again. Emily- Don’t bother, I’ll just give you ours. Emily pulls a piece of paper and pen out of her purse and writes down the number Emily- Call her anytime. She must be very excited about you! Right now, we have to go eat. Emily hands Melinda the paper Mel-Thanks Emily, I’ll be sure to call, bye now. Emily- Nice to meet you Melinda! Bye. Later that night, Emily is walking down the hallway with an armful of laundry when she hears Molly talking in her room. She stops and knocks on the door. Emily-Molly? She opens the door. Molly is sitting on her bed in her PJs with the headset hooked up to her ear. Her Mom looks around. Emily- Who are you talking to? I don't see anyone Molly laughs Molly- No Mom, this time I'm actually on the phone! Emily-Oh? I didn’t hear it ring. Are you talking with a new friend from school? Molly-No, Mom actually, it's Melinda Emily-Ok, well don't waste too much of her time, you know she has a life too! Molly- Yeah, yeah I know Emily leaves Molly- Hey Melinda, sorry about that. I'm so glad my mom gave you our number! We go to Melinda who is sitting on her bed in a nightgown. Mel- Yeah, she didn't even hesitate after I told her I could see ghosts. Molly- Well that’s not something you lie about! Melinda glances around Mel- So tell me about yourself, Molly why did you move to Grandview? Molly- Well my mom and dad stopped here on their way to a relative’s house that live near here. They came back from vacation and told me we were moving. Don't know why, but they did. Two months later, we live here. Melinda smiles Mel- That must have been hard on you Molly- Not really, I didn't have any friends at our old house, it’s just hard for me to make them, you know? Mel- I do... Molly changes’ the subject Molly-Yeah, So you can talk to ghosts too? That is so cool! I have so many things to ask you, do you mind? Mel-Ask away Molly- Ok...hmm... do you help them into the light too? Mel- Yep Both girls are smiling. Molly twists her hair around her finger, Melinda glances down at the baby who is sleeping in a crib besides the bed Molly- How old were you when you crossed over your first ghost? Mel-I think I was 8, almost 9. Molly- I was 7 Mel- Really? I didn't even see my first ghost until I was 8 Molly- That’s weird! I've been able to see them for as long as I can remember! Mel- Hmmm Molly- Ok, what else? Oh! Could your mom see ghosts too? My mom can, but she only helps the few who really need her, she says it gets too emotional for her. Mel- Yes my mom can see them. But she didn't tell me until just a couple years ago Molly- Really? She kept it a secret from you through your whole childhood? How? Mel- I'm not sure, but she did Molly-Wow! Who did you talk to it about it? How did you learn? Mel-Well, my grandmother was always there for me. She died when I was in high school. Molly-Hmm. My Mom taught me everything I know. I grew up listening to stories my mom told me about her adventures with ghosts, She always told me when I was little the people I could see that nobody else could were just imaginary friends. She didn't tell me they were actual ghosts until I was 7. Since then she’s always been very open to it. Mel- I wish my mom was like that. She treats her gift like a curse and tries to push it away Molly- That stinks There is an awkward silence. Molly glances around the room and leans back on the wall behind her bed. All the sudden the baby starts to cry. Melinda stands up and goes over to the crib. She picks her up and tries to calm her down. Molly- Awww. You have a baby? Boy or girl? Mel- Girl, her name is Chloe Molly-How old? Mel- Almost a year Melinda sits back down on the bed with the baby in her arms. Molly- Cool!! I love kids. Mel-Oh really? Do you baby-sit? Molly- I used too, at our old house. I took the class like 5 times so I have my license but we haven't met enough people around here for me to have any jobs yet. Mel-Oh Molly- So are you married? Melinda puts Chloe back in the crib. Mel-Yeah. Molly-Ok, next question, uh did you have any siblings growing up? Mel- No but I did find out about two years ago that I had a step brother. Molly-Alright…. Mel-It's a long story. Molly- Ok then Mel- What about you? Any brothers or sisters? Molly-Nope, only child, people ask me if I get lonely but, you know, I have enough people following me around anyway. Mel-Yeah Emily opens Molly's bedroom door Emily-Moll? It's getting late, time to let Melinda go. Molly-Ok Mom, goodnight Emily- Night Molly- Hey Melinda? Yeah, my Mom says I have to go to sleep. Talk to you later? Mel- Yeah, ok, bye They hang up. Molly leans over and turns out her light, then she lies down and tries to go to sleep. Melinda goes and puts the phone away. Not long after that Jim walks in the door, home from work. Melinda picks up Chloe and they both go down stairs. They meet Jim at the front door. Melinda leans in and gives him a kiss. Mel- Hey, how was your day? Jim- Uhh, interesting. Yours? Mel-VERY interesting Jim- Ok, tell me about it Melinda and Jim sit on the couch next to eachother Mel-Ok, I met the new neighbors today Jim-Oh really? Did they stop over here? Mel- No actually, I went for a walk and saw their daughter sitting on the lawn. Jim-Who was with Chloe? Mel-Delia Jim- Was someone at the store? Mel- Yes! Ned was, ok? Relax, I had everything under control. Jim- Oh, poor Ned. He has a life you know, we need to find a baby-sitter so he doesn’t have to constantly work at the store. Mel- OK, ok, let me finish my story! Jim-Alright, I’m listening Mel-Ok, so their daughter, she is almost 14, her name is Molly... Jim- Does she by any chance, baby-sit? Mel- Shhh! That’s not what I’m talking about right now! Jim- Oh! Sorry! Mel- Anyway, she was sitting on their front lawn, and she looked like she was talking on the phone! Jim-Where are you going with this? Mel- But she wasn’t! She was talking to a ghost! Jim- Really! Melinda nods, she is smiling Jim- Wow, what are the odds? Did you talk to her? Mel- Yes, I did. She knows I know and she knows that I do too; talk to ghosts that is.....Uhh did that make sense? Jim-More or less Mel-And then I talked to her Mom, Emily, who also talks to them and I got their phone number and Molly and I talked for a while. Jim-Well, you beat me, you definitely had the more interesting day! Melinda shrugs Jim-So.... Does she baby-sit? Melinda laughs and leans back against the couch Mel- She said she took classes for it and used to at her old house, but I didn’t ask her if she would watch Chloe. Jim-Will you? Mel-I will, don’t worry about it. Now you have to tell me what you think! The rest of my fanfic is under the "User fanfic" page as "The runaway". Thats when the story really starts. Heres a synopsis- Molly and Melinda have become very good friends, so when Molly comes to Melinda with a ghost, she’s more then happy to help cross him over. But it's not long until Melinda finds out that in order to help this ghost with his unfinished business, she’ll have to help Molly with hers too. I hope you love it!
